PART 1:

The typology I got was a 'Donut'. During my research I found structures and buildings that have something in common; they weren't basic "donut" shaped building. The buildings I found didn't look like "donuts" unless seen from a certain perspective, such as the Jewel Changi Airport, Mercedes Benz Stadium, Penda's Doughnut House, and, Sengokubara Villa

PROJECT 3

LIBRARY & COMMUNITY CENTER

Scope:

Part 1: Typology

Part 2: Site

Part 3: Program

Part 4: Synthesis

Objective:

Part 1: Study and research typology, abstract and circulation drawing, 5x5x5 model

Part 2: Visit assigned site (Church of Christ, Scientist Plaza), take photos, access the site, 11”x17” landscape format collage

Part 3: Two iterations of a physical massing model

-one diagrammatic section on 11” x 17”

-one diagrammatic plan on 11” x 17”
-one diagrammatic circulation diagram on 11” x 17”

Part 4: Final Deliverables

- one Final Model (scale: 1/16”)
- two Plans (scale: 1/16”)
- two Section (scale: 1/16”)
- two Model Photos (1 exterior, 1 interior)
- Type Research (from Part 1)
- Programmatic Model (from Part 2)
- Programmatic/Circulation Diagrams (Part 2)
- Site Collage (Part 3)

PART 2:

One of the problems of the site was the reflection pool stretched out the whole plaza. It was too long and didn't have anyway to walk in between, people needed to go the whole way round to get to the other side. The plaza was empty because it seemed closed off, it didn't give a welcoming vibe to people.

FINAL DELIVERABLES:

For the final model it was decided that it would be two 'U' shaped floors facing the opposite direction. The ground floor was a smaller size and contained the more public and noisy places and the second floor contained the library which was a more quiet places. The outer part of the building was solid concrete and the inner parts are glass walls including an extension of the library that is facing the plaza. This enables people to see the view of the reflection pool from the second floor and people in the plaza can catch a glimspe of the library.

Following the research I did with the typography, the building isn't shaped like a basic "donut". The "donut" is seen from the view of the drawings, the top view, or when a person is in the circle at the middle.
